Litigation Section Meeting: The Value of Using a Forensic Weather Expert



We will discuss the background of our company, forensic weather consulting services and products we provide, types of cases we work on, the benefits of using a weather expert, how to select a qualified weather expert, etc. Our weather expert Jim Bria will present a case study, where he details his meteorological investigation process, analysis and findings, challenges and oversights by the opposing weather expert, and the outcomes and takeaways of the case.

About the Speakers:




Kim Fisher is a Business Development & Sales Associate at CompuWeather. She is also a meteorologist and earned a B.S. in Atmospheric Science from Cornell University in 2006. She spent several years working as a forecaster at FleetWeather, providing weather forecasts for clients such as roofing companies, school districts, production companies, radio stations, and the Yankees and Mets. She then moved into a business development & sales role for the forensic weather division of the same company, which is known as CompuWeather. She enjoys assisting attorneys, insurance professionals, and engineers with their weather-related cases. Contact info: kfisher@compuweather.com


James V. Bria III is an avid weather enthusiast with an interest in weather since childhood. Jim attended the State University of New York at Albany and obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Atmospheric Science with a Minor in Business in 2001. He was hired by CompuWeather in 2003 and has worked with the company ever since. In 2014, he earned the prestigious Certified Consulting Meteorologist Seal (#695) from the American Meteorological Society. Jim has extensive experience as a forensic meteorologist and expert witness, having been qualified as an expert for deposition and trial testimony in over 90 cases for both state and federal courts.
