Tax Deferred Exchanges: A Review of the Basics and Complex 1031 Structures

This one hour seminar will assist paralegals in providing tax deferral guidance to clients who are contemplating selling investment real estate. If your clients are considering the sale of an investment property such as apartment complexes, office buildings, shopping centers or vacant land, a 1031 exchange is the IRS authorized method to defer paying the taxes associated with the sale. In addition to reviewing the 1031 guidelines, I will discuss structuring complex transactions such as exchanges involving partnerships and related parties.

Anna Barsky is Vice President and the Illinois/Indiana/Wisconsin Business Development Officer for IPX1031 Exchange Services, Inc. Anna conducts continuing education classes for law firms, accounting firms and commercial real estate companies throughout the Midwest. She has been working in the 1031 industry for 15 years and facilitated over 2000 exchanges last year.  Anna has been instrumental in setting up 1031 exchange programs at banks and has assisted in structuring complex 1031 exchanges for some of the area’s largest real estate investors as well as Fortune 500 Companies.
