Meet IPA Director Samantha Misch

With a passion for the legal field that has spanned over a decade, I decided to pursue my dreams relentlessly. In 2021, I achieved a significant milestone when I completed my Associate’s degree from the College of Lake County. Eager to further my education and advance my career, I immediately enrolled in CLC’s legal studies program to obtain a paralegal certificate.

IPA's Spring Education Series Recap

The IPA's Spring Education Series came to a close yesterday with our final session, "Probate Administration: From Start to Finish" having been rescheduled. 63 IPA members and 1 nonmember registered to attend the Series, which offered 20 different CLE sessions. Each session was well attended with an average live attendance of 18 people per session. The reviews of the topics and the speakers have all been great! Well done, IPA Education Chair Sharon Patterson, and everyone else who assisted in finding topics and speakers. We couldn't put on the Spring Education Series without all your help!

Illinois Supreme Court Reinforces Service of Summons Allowable Via Social Media, Text and Email

SCOIL is really embracing the use of technology and they made a very important amendment to Rule 102 for Service by Special Order of Court allowing service by social media, e-mail and text message as long as the "court is satisfied that the defendant/respondent has access to and the ability to use the necessary technology to receive and read the summons and documents electronically".

"Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is announcing new actions that will further promote responsible American innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) and protect people’s rights and safety. These steps build on the Administration’s strong record of leadership to ensure technology improves the lives of the American people, and break new ground in the federal government’s ongoing effort to advance a cohesive and comprehensive approach to AI-related risks and opportunities."

The End of the Federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency

While on it’s face this isn’t legal news, it is noteworthy that the federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency has ended as of May 11, 2023.

What impact the end of the federal PHE will have is unknown – especially for healthcare providers and patients. What will not change, as well as what will, can be viewed here.
