IPA's 2023 Board of Directors Elections Recap

The 2023 Annual Meeting was held on April 13th. Samantha Misch was elected to her first term as a Director of IPA, along with re-elected Directors Catherine Antolec, Larice Davis, Jennifer Fryer, and Liana Podman.  Following the Annual Meeting, the new Board of Directors held their first board meeting and elected Melissa Jurik to another term as President, as well as Catherine Antolec (Vice President), Liana Podman (Treasurer), and Sally Fleissner (Secretary).

60 Years Later, Gideon’s Legacy Lives On

You may not know who Clarence Earl Gideon is, but his Supreme Court Case Gideon v. Wainwright was fundamental in refining a criminal defendant's right to counsel.   U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez, chair of the Judicial Conference's Defender Services Committee, is quoted in the article stating "the Gideon case remains significant today because it established that no one can pick and choose who is and isn't worthy of having the right to counsel based on the size of their wallet."  Click here to learn more about this landmark case.
