State of the Paralegal Profession

About this event

Join us August 6 for the IPA’s 3rd Annual State of the Paralegal Profession.

This event is an opportunity to discuss changes within the paralegal field with a focus on paralegal licensing. As in year’s past, paralegals who have obtained licensure within their respective states will share their journeys and the impact licensing has had on their careers and access to justice within their communities. Program Associate, Courtney Petersen-Rhead, with the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System, will also join us to discuss the expansion of Allied Legal Professional programs nationwide. We will also discuss other opportunities emerging within the paralegal field and expected future trends.

This year’s State of the Paralegal Profession event will introduce you to the following legal pioneers:

Courtney Petersen-Rhead is a Program Associate at IAALS, where she works to advance IAALS’s mission of unlocking innovations that make the justice system more just. One of her key areas of focus is strengthening and expanding Allied Legal Professional programs nationwide, which she views as crucial to broadening access to legal services. Prior to joining IAALS, Courtney taught at the University of Michigan Law School, where she co-created an interdisciplinary social innovation lab. She holds JD and MSW degrees from the University of Michigan.

Rachel Albertson has 23 years’ experience as a paralegal, in both private practice and legal aid organizations. She is currently the Innovations Manager at Justice Noth, a legal aid organization in Minnesota. Rachel is a Legal Paraprofessional (LP) with the Minnesota Legal Paraprofessional Program as well as the current Chair of the Minnesota Judicial Branch Legal Paraprofessional Standing Committee. She is also a Minnesota Certified Paralegal (MnCP) through the Minnesota Paralegal Association.

Kaitlyn Story is a Licensed Legal Paraprofessional (LLP) and advanced certified paralegal with over a decade of experience in litigation. She is passionate about making legal services more accessible and empowering clients with the tools and knowledge they need to navigate life’s legal challenges with confidence.
